This one-to-one relationship provides a space to explore the stirrings and invitations found within. Also described as Spiritual Companionship, this intimate connection supports an individual’s desire to uncover that “something more” that is often waiting on the edges of awareness. For some, the call is to live an intentional and reflective life. For others, the desire is unnamed, even unknown as a tangible reality. By establishing a loving “container,” this ministry honors the journey with God without imposing a point of view. The individual is invited to an authentic relationship with God, with the Spiritual Director as their witness and companion.
The poet William Blake said, “ And we are put on earth a little space, that we might learn to bear the beams of love.” Bear the beams of love? Me? You? Yes! Spiritual Direction offers a relationship that trusts the process and trusts the outcome, so that we may know this deep and abiding love that comes into our hearts without our bidding. Our best response at this point, as Meister Eckhart reminds us, is “Thank you.”
